As a tribute to its 90 years in existence, national mineral research council Mintek will host the Mintek@90 Conference, at the Sandton Convention Centre, from November 11 to 12.

The conference will provide a platform for industry leaders, experts and enthusiasts to convene and shape the future of the minerals sector, Mintek says.

With a focus on collaboration, the conference is aimed at addressing pivotal areas of development within the industry, including energy, critical minerals, emerging technologies, unlocking resources, advanced materials, environmental considerations, social responsibility, governance and human capital development for the future mining industry.

This collaborative initiative seeks to redefine Mintek's role as the preferred partner in mineral and metallurgical innovation.

"As South Africa commemorates 30 years of democracy, we also celebrate Mintek's ninetieth anniversary and its indispensable contributions to our mineral and metallurgical sectors. The Mintek@90 Conference not only honours Mintek's achievements, but also aligns with our nation's journey over the past three decades and our vision for the future," says Mintek CEO Dr Molefi Motuku.

"The Mintek@90 Conference marks a pivotal moment in South Africa's minerals sector. It is a testament to Mintek's enduring commitment to innovation and its vital role in driving the industry forward. This initiative showcases our country's rich mining heritage and underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in shaping a sustainable future for our mineral resources," adds Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe.

The Mintek@90 Conference serves as the flagship event of a series of activities planned for the year, including a dedicated symposium focussing on the artisanal and small-scale mining sector, to be held in April; and the Young Researchers Symposium on Mineral Innovation in July, highlighting Mintek's comprehensive approach to fostering innovation and inclusivity within the industry.

Over the past 90 years, Mintek has extended its products and services to clients in over 60 countries, delivering expertise and trillions of rands in value to the industry. The Mintek@90 Conference commemorates this legacy and sets the stage for future industry advancements through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
