JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Junior gold miner Maudore Minerals is taking legal action against its former mining contractor at the Vezza project, Promec Mining, as a dispute to renegotiate contractual payment agreements continues.

Maudore, which temporarily halted trading on the TSX-V on Friday, said at the weekend that it would file a claim for damages for wrongful commencement of bankruptcy proceedings, as well as for breach of contract and breach of a confidentiality agreement.

The junior gold miner claimed that Promec violated a mutual nondisclosure agreement, after a newspaper article reportedly divulged confidential aspects of negotiations between the two parties.

Maudore also said that Promec had filed a ‘notice of bankruptcy proceeding’ on Friday, which it believed was invalid.

Promec pulled its crews from Maudore’s Vezza project, in Quebec, earlier than planned over a dispute to renegotiate contractual payment terms. Maudore said it had employed alternative labour sources at Vezza to keep work going while the dispute is ongoing.

The company reported earlier this month that it planned to finish mining and processing mineralised material at Vezza over the next several months, while deploying a small workforce at its Sleeping Giant mine, north of Amos, to prepare the underground workings for exploration and remnant mining.
