MAKE PLATINUM MINING GREEN:

Platinum group metals (PGMs) are used to clean the air of major cities around the world, but the equipment that mines them belch dirty smoke and carbonise the atmosphere. That irony is beginning to put local PGM mining companies under pressure and, before the global supply chain begins turning its back on PGMs because of the carbonised way in which they are mined, mining companies should match the greenness of their metals to operational greenness. Ideally, they can do that with PGM-catalysed fuel cells, but, can you believe it, battery electric vehicles have even stolen a march on them in the heavy mining equipment arena. A prototype electric dumper is being put through its paces in Switzerland by eMining. Please play catch-up, South Africa. Mining Weekly will be publishing a major feature on fuel cells and companies wanting to advertise in the feature should contact Creamer Media COO: sales and marketing Reinette Classen at +27 11622 3744.
