Lincoln inches closer to Kookaburra Gully development
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Graphite developer Lincoln Minerals has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the District Council of Tumby Bay, in South Australia, over the proposed Kookaburra Gully graphite mine.
The MoU provided a framework for both parties to work together on the road, power and water infrastructure required to bring the project into production.
Lincoln MD John Parker said on Wednesday that the signing of the MoU showed the willingness of the council and the company to collaborate in order to achieve maximum benefits for this new mining opportunity for the Tumby Bay region through the upgrading of roads, increasing business and employment opportunities, achieving improved environmental and social outcomes, and reinforcing relationships already developed.
The Kookaburra Gully project had an estimated 2.2-million-tonne resource, grading 15.1% graphitic carbon, containing 331 778 t of contained graphite.
Lincoln was expecting a determination on its mining lease application by early May, and Parker said on Wednesday that progress on preparing a programme for environmental protection and rehabilitation was continuing.
Furthermore, a geotechnical diamond core drilling programme was under way at the proposed mine site, along with further engineering studies, soil testing, groundwater monitoring and metallurgy.
