Name of the Project
Kwale Operation – Bumamani project.

Location
Kwale County, Kenya.

Project Owner/s
Base Resources.

Project Description
The project will extend the life of Kwale Operation by 13 months, to December 2024.

The Bumamani project comprises higher-grade subsets of the Bumamani and Kwale North Dune deposits, which comprise total ore reserves of 17.9-million tonnes at an average heavy mineral grade of 2.1% for 290 000 t for 0.38-million tonnes of contained heavy minerals.

An additional 17.9-million tonnes of ore reserves are expected to be mined to produce an estimated 42 000 t of rutile, 171 000 t of ilmenite and 20 000 t of zircon. The definitive feasibility study proposes hydraulic mining using Kwale operations’ existing hydraulic mining units (HMUs). This mining method is nonselective, with HMUs using high-pressure water jets to sluice the entire ore face, creating an ore slurry that can then be pumped to the wet concentrator plant.
