PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Tiger Resources has set a new quarterly production record at its Kipoi copper project, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Kipoi project delivered 12 123 t of copper in concentrate during the three months to September, which was 35% above the plant’s nameplate capacity and 9% higher than the previous quarter production record.

For the calendar year to date, the Kipoi project has delivered 32 727 t of copper in concentratae.

“Our Kipoi plant continues to impress us with its ability to operate consistently above its nameplate capacity,” said Tiger MD Brad Marwood on Tuesday.

“It is pleasing that we have been able to achieve two consecutive quarters of record production,” he added.

Marwood noted that Tiger was on track to produce between 41 000 t and 43 000 t of copper concentrate for the full year, adding that stockpiles at Kipoi had also increased to 4.7-million tonnes during the quarter, grading at 2.5% copper, for 115 300 t of contained copper.

The stockpiles would be used for ore feed during the Stage 2 solvent extraction electrowinning plant in 2014 and 2015.
