Project Owner/s
Botswana-based Debswana Diamond Company, a joint venture between the Botswana government and De Beers.

Project Description
The project is a nine-million-carat-a-year replacement project for cuts 7 and 8 of the Jwaneng mine, which will extend the life of the Jwaneng openpit mine to 2036.

The project is expected to yield an estimated 59-million carats of rough diamonds from about 49-million tonnes of material.

Potential Job Creation
At its peak, Cut-9 is expected to create more than 1 000 jobs, the majority of which will be held by Botswana citizens.

Not stated.

Capital Expenditure
Debswana will invest about $2.1-billion over the life of the project.

Planned Start/End Date
First production is expected in 2027.
