JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Russia-focused gold miner Highland Gold has increased its production by 14.6% year-on-year to 71 767 oz in the third quarter, ensuring that the company remains on track to meet its full-year guidance of 255 000 oz to 265 000 oz.

From the Khabarovsk region, production at the Mnogovershinnoye mine increased by 10% to 27 376 oz and output from the Belaya Gora operation increased by 27% to 12 280 oz.

The company has been treating ore from low-grade stockpiles at Belaya Gora, while it examines options for processing plant improvements to boost recovery rates. Highland said work continued on a prefeasibility study covering upgrades to the Belaya Gora mill, updated reserve estimates, and a joint mining schedule for Belaya Gora and the nearby Blagodatnoye deposit. The report is expected in the fourth quarter.

The Novoshirokinskoye mine, in the Zabaikalsky region, produced 32 111 oz in the September quarter – a 14% improvement on the production of the third quarter of 2016. Highland is planning to expand the processing capacity of Novo to 1.3-million tons a year.

In the Chukotka autonomous district, contractor Fluor is proceeding with work on a definitive feasibility study (DFS) for the Kekura deposit, after receiving data for the study’s mining section from SRK in the third quarter. Highland said the full DFS was expected in the fourth quarter. SRK is also carrying out an updated Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant reserve estimate, which should be released in the fourth quarter.
