Full Name: Greg Maslov

Position and Company Name: Co-CEO of SAPRO

Main Activity of the Company: SAPRO is a global talent-outsourcing firm providing tax, advisory and assurance professionals

Date and Place of Birth: September 1, Johannesburg

Schools and Tertiary Education: BCom and BAcc (Hons), University of the Witwatersrand; CA(SA)

First Job: Audit clerk at PwC

Size of First Pay Packet: R3 000 after tax a month

Career Path to Date: After starting my career as an audit clerk at PwC, I consulted with several banks in South Africa for two to three years, before relocating to the US, where I established a business that catered to the needs of US banks. I then joined Barclays and Credit Suisse, reporting directly to the chief risk officers. During my tenure, I successfully delivered strategic projects and processes valued at $1-billion. It was during this time that I co-founded SAPRO, which has been in operation for five-and-a-half years

Number of People under Your Leadership: 750 to 1 350, depending on the number of consultants in service

Management Style: Transformational, with a heavy focus on social impact and upliftment

Personal Best Achievement: During the Covid-19 pandemic, we placed great emphasis on the safety and wellbeing of our travelling consultants who were based in South Africa and were in the US at the time. We implemented a range of measures to protect them from the risks of Covid-19, prioritising their health and safety

Person Who Has Had the Biggest Influence on Your Life: My father, who was well loved in his community for being kind and giving. He spent endless hours coaching me on how to be good to others and business

Person Who Has Had the Biggest Influence on Your Career: The management and leadership that mistreated me when I was in high-power leadership positions in the bank; the bureaucracy and poor culture motivated me to create SAPRO – a different business that puts people first

Person You Would Most Like to Meet: Bill Gross, the CEO of Idealab, who founded more than 100 companies over his career, including Heliogen, Energy Vault and many others that have been listed

Businessperson Who Has Impressed You Most: Wayne Berson, CEO of BDO USA, who, as a South African immigrant to the US, has achieved remarkable success, growing the firm’s revenue from $600-million to more than $2.5-billion

Philosophy of Life: Be good to others, be kind

Biggest Ever Opportunity: To serve the people at SAPRO

Biggest Ever Disappointment: If I have ever failed anyone in the SAPRO community or my personal community

Hope for the Future: That SAPRO will have a significant and measurable impact on improving social and economic standards for underserved communities. I want to focus my energy on driving positive change in sustainable social development, education and pre-emptive healthcare
