JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – South African gold producer Gold Fields has appointed Alan Richard Hill as an independent non-executive director, effective from August 21.

Hill serves on the board of gold explorers Gabriel Resources and until recently was chairperson of Alamos Gold.

Hill spent 19 years with Barrick Gold and retired in 2003, as the gold-miner’s executive vice president for development.

Gold Fields said in a statement that Hill brought significant experience and leadership in terms of project evaluation, management, and development, as well as an in-depth knowledge of corporate transactions and sustainable development issues in the mining sector.

He holds a B.Sc in Mining Engineering as well as a M.Phil in Rock Mechanics from Leeds University.
