JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – London-listed Gem Diamonds has sold an exceptional 357 ct white diamond that was recovered at its Letšeng mine, in Lesotho, in July, for $19.3-million in Antwerp last week.

“The Letšeng mine has produced two remarkable over 300 ct diamonds during the year to date. The 314 ct diamond, which was recovered in May and sold into a partnership arrangement in June, and this 357 ct diamond.

“Both diamonds achieved top prices, despite current market conditions, providing further evidence of the price resilience of Letšeng's large top-quality diamonds,” commented CEO Clifford Elphick.

Since Gem Diamonds' acquisition of Letšeng in 2006, the mine has produced four of the 20 largest white gem-quality diamonds ever recorded.
