Former BHP exec to chair iron-ore junior exploring Madagascar
Graeme Hunt, a former BHP iron-ore president, has been appointed chairperson of ASX-listed Akora Resources with effect from February 1.
MD and CEO Paul Bibby says Hunt’s extensive iron-ore experience and long track record of shareholder value creation in capital-intensive and globally competitive industries will be a major asset for Akora.
Akora owns four exploration and development projects in Madagascar, including the Bekisopa project that has an inferred resource of 194.7-million tonnes. The project has the potential to produce premium grade 68%-plus iron concentrate, suitable for direct reduced iron pellets for green steel.
“Akora’s high-quality iron-ore has huge appeal to an emerging green steel world. It’s an exciting opportunity and I look forward to helping Akora reach its full potential,” says Hunt.
This is the second significant appointment for Akora in as many weeks, following the announcement of Jason Whittle as general manager for development.
Whittle previously worked with notable companies such as Pasminco, Zinifex, OZ Minerals and MMG.
