TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Canadian base metals miner Capstone Mining on Monday said it had resumed operations at its Cozamin copper/silver mine, in Mexico, after a falling rock killed a contract worker on Thursday.

The TSX-listed miner said the worker, who was working on the active mining face, was immediately transported to hospital in Zacatecas and pronounced dead on arrival.

Capstone on Monday said investigations continued and the accident scene had been barricaded.

Normal operations had resumed in all other areas of the mine after a three-day stand down. A review of all active underground faces confirmed that operating conditions were safe.

The shortfall in production was not expected to affect the mine's 2014 guidance.

Cozamin produced 5 101 t of red metal, 1 632 t of zinc, 516 t of lead and 452 000 oz of silver in the first quarter.
