The WPIL stand at this year’s Electra Mining Africa focuses on products manufactured and supported by South African subsidiary companies APE Pumps and Mather+Platt.

WPIL is an Indian pump multinational extensively involved in mining operations worldwide. The company acquired APE Pumps and Mather+Platt in 2012.

Mather+Platt has been a leading name in the South African pump manufacturing industry since 1950. Besides its own pumps, Mather+Platt is also the authorised distributor of Vanton chemical pumps and EIM submersible pumps, and a distributor of Viking gear pumps.

The company will be launching its new range of split-case pumps at Electra Mining Africa.

Vanton pumps have a reputation for durability because of their non-metallic wet ends, which are made of corrosion and abrasion resistant engineered plastics that are inert to aggressive chemicals.

EIM submersible pumps are well known for their robust design, delivering a long service life, low maintenance requirement and a resistance to clogging.

Positive displacement Viking internal gear pumps are widely used in mining applications to transfer viscous fluids up to 440 000 cSt.

Mather+Platt also has a large population of PJ multi-stage pumps installed over many years in mines globally for mine dewatering.

APE Pumps is South Africa’s leading manufacturer of engineered turbine pumps, split-casing, end-suction, vertical sump and multi-stage pumps.

The APE vertical turbine pump is designed for any type of drive and can be used in most applications. Pump materials and assembly are selected from a number of standard variations to suit the application.

APE split-casing pumps are versatile and practically maintenance free, providing years of reliable, trouble-free service. The pumps are available in a wide variety of materials for different applications in general liquid pumping. Drivers include electric motors, combustion engines and steam turbines.

End-suction type volute casing centrifugal pumps from APE are based on DIN 24255 dimensions, with a back pull-out design to facilitate maintenance and avoid disturbance of pipework when fitted with a spacer coupling. When fitted with a belt drive, the pedestal-mounted housing allows angled or horizontal positioning of the delivery branch.

APE vertical sump pumps are single stage, non-self-priming volute casing centrifugal pumps with principal dimensions and performance to DIN 24255, assembled in vertical close-coupled configuration for fitting into tanks and sumps.  The pump frame and impeller can be designed to transfer liquids with abrasive particles in suspension.

Applications for the APE multi-stage high pressure pump include pressure boosting, fire fighting, water circulation and pressurisation on the process side of mining.

The APE Pumps and Mather+Platt factories operate from the same premises in Wadeville, outside Johannesburg. Factory expansion is in the planning phase to allow increased production in the future.
