Singapore-based investment holding company Singapore Exchange (SGX) is hosting an exchanges roundtable, in conjunction with advisory firm Deloitte, Singapore-based international legal services provider WongPartnership and Canadian banking and financial services company Canaccord Genuity, on February 4 at the Investing in African Mining Indaba, which will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from February 3 to 6.

“We will discuss all the aspects of listing on SGX and the advantages of mining companies doing so in Asia,” SGX Europe, Middle East and Africa listings head Paulina McGroarty tells Mining Weekly.

She states that SGX has been active in building the natural-resources sector, particularly in Singapore, which is regarded by many as the gateway to Asia.

“We have also noticed increased investment interest in international assets, including African natural-resource companies, from fund managers located in Singapore.”

McGroarty says that SGX is the exchange with the most international listings, with 40% of its listed companies originating outside Singapore. There is a total of 18 SGX-listed mineral, oil and gas companies, with a combined market capitalisation of S$7-billion. “We welcome African mining companies to tap into Singapore’s capital market for new and secondary fundraising opportunities,” she states, adding that the exchanges roundtable targets corporates in the private and public sectors that want to learn more about listing on SGX.

McGroarty hopes that those who attend the session will walk away with a holistic understanding of the Singapore and Asia capital markets and with a better understanding of the benefits of being listed on SGX.

“The exchanges roundtable discussion is guaranteed to help companies learn more about the new avenues of cost-effective fundraising offered by SGX. I hope that we will also take away new creative ideas, establish new connections and gain new mining-related customers,” she concludes.
