Canadian miner Eastport Ventures has appointed Robin Birchall CEO effective immediately.

He brings to the board more than 20 years of experience in the investment banking sector within the mining sector. He has also helped develop junior mining companies to material stages, including feasibility study and final investment decisions.

Birchall has successfully operated and led listed junior mining companies on the Toronto and London stock exchanges, with these companies having operational mines in Botswana, West Africa and Russia.

Eastport itself has mineral interests spanning copper, uranium, rare earths, nickel and diamonds in Botswana.

The company has acquired six mineral projects with much exploration and development expenditure having occurred on them.

Eastport also has an investment arm with a portfolio of marketable and private securities.

Chairperson Burns Singh Tennet-Bhohi says Birchall will be leading the company at a highly material stage, with this year expected to be Eastport’s most ambitious year to date.

“We plan to achieve a public market listing and advance up to three drill programmes across three of our development-ready projects. This comes amid a market environment that remains uncertain in pricing, but certain of the rate at which ore reserves are depleting, while metal consumption continues to increase.”

Tennet-Bhohi is confident that Birchall is one of the best global candidates in the junior mining industry and that he has the required skill set to ensure successful capital raising for projects in Botswana.
