JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The Botswana government has awarded Sunland Minerals – a 50:50 joint venture (JV) between Aim-listed Botswana Diamonds and Russian diamond producer Alrosa – a new prospecting licence, PL260/2015.

The 25 km2 PL260/2015 covered ground which was the highest priority for the JV partners and it contained three previously discovered kimberlite bodies – AK21, AK22 and AK23.

With the JV exploration team currently active in the area, work had started immediately on reviewing the block with a view to defining new anomalies and drill targets. The existing kimberlites were being reviewed to verify if they warrant further evaluation.

The new licence would be valid for three years.
