PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Metals miner Discovery Metals Limited (DML) has reported a 5% quarter-on-quarter increase in concentrate production at it Boseto copper mine, in Botswana, during the quarter ended December.

The miner said that a 2% increase in the amount of ore milled had increased copper production to 4 352 t, while silver production increased to 130 246 oz.

However, copper production for the quarter was down 7.5% on the previous quarter, while silver production was down 33.8% on the previous quarter.

Meanwhile, cash costs for the quarter were up by 4.1% compared with the previous three months, as a result of the lower copper production, despite the falling mining, plant and overhead site costs.

Earlier this month, DML announced that it would restructure the Boseto copper project, resulting in the termination of some 85 positions at the mine. The restructuring programme was designed to improve the cost competitiveness of the mine and further enhance production efficiencies.
