Explosives manufacturer and supplier BME will host its twenty- third drilling and blasting conference on November 12 at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, in Pretoria.

The

aim of the conference is to disseminate knowledge in explosives engineering, blasting and geotechnology in order to help customers achieve faster, safer and more efficient ore recovery. This, in turn, will allow customers to increase their bottom line.

During the conference, gold mining company Gold One Modder East operation explosives manager James McArdle will present a case study that outlines two companies’ vertical pipeline partnership.

“This project is a ground-breaking advance in terms of vertical pipelines, as this is the first time emulsions will be pumped to a depth of 318 m,” he says.

Also, drill and blasting consulting services company Blast Training International blasting consultant Alastair Torrance will present on post-blast fumes – he has a deep understanding of explosives products and applications.

Moreover, international blast engineering and consulting firm RA McClure president Robert McClure will address delegates on advances in photogrammetry.

BME detonator technology manager Tinus Brits will present on the next-generation Axxis GII detonator. The detonator has a safety feature that offers two-way communication between the blasting box and detonators. BME BlastInfo technical manager Pieter van Jaarsveld will address common mistakes made in blasting and BME blasting technology director Tony Rorke will highlight the downstream benefits of blasting the right way.

BME notes that papers will be presented on blast technology and blasting operations, and perspectives from both international and national experiences will be addressed.
