JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum miner Lonmin has permanently appointed Brian Beamish as chairperson.

Beamish took on the role of interim chairperson on May 1, following the resignation of former chairperson Roger Phillimore.

“I am delighted that Brian has accepted the role of chairperson on a permanent basis. After an extensive and exhaustive search process I am convinced that Brian was by far the best candidate and I look forward to supporting him as we develop and implement our plans,” commented Lonmin nomination committee chairperson Jim Sutcliffe.

Beamish said he would continue to work closely with Lonmin CEO Ben Magara to lead the company through the challenges ahead as it returns its operations to normal following the five-month strike in the platinum sector.

Lonmin would release its production figures for the third quarter on July 25.
