Canadian mining company Wesdome Gold Mines on Wednesday announced the appointment of Louise Grondin to the board of directors.

Grondin retired from Agnico Eagle Mines in January 2021 as senior VP for people and culture.

Since joining Agnico Eagle in 2001, she has held various leadership positions, including senior VP environment, sustainable development and people.

Previously, Grondin worked for Billiton Canada as manager, environment, human resources and safety. She currently serves as a director on the board of Champion Iron.

Chairperson and interim CEO Warwick Morley-Jepson commented that Grondin was a “highly accomplished leader who brings extensive experience in environment, health and safety, community relations and human resources, all of which closely align to our strategy and strengthen the existing skills set of the board”.

Wesdome also announced the appointment of Charles Main to the newly-created position of lead independent director effective February 1, 2023.

Main was elected to the Wesdome board in 2017. He was selected unanimously by the independent directors of the board as independent lead director in recognition of his leadership skills, integrity, and his commitment to good governance. In addition to his role as lead independent director, he will continue as chairperson of the audit committee.
