Well done, South Africa, for Covid-19 generosity and decisiveness

South Africa’s billionaires and the country’s major corporate companies need ongoing pats on the back for showing such wonderful generosity during the Covid-19 crisis.

The R1-billion pledged by Dr Patrice Motsepe and wife Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, and the R1-billion pledges from Nicky and Jonathan Oppenheimer, Johan Rupert and family, Mary Oppenheimer and her daughters Victoria, Rebecca, Jessica and Rachel, must continue to be applauded. Mining corporates must be acknowledged for the humanitarian concern they have shown for the people of South Africa in this hour of unprecedented need.

The JSE must be credited for spreading altruism by donating a portion of trading funds to the Solidarity response fund. A key contributor to all this big-heartedness is the confidence that the South African people have in their remarkable leader, President Cyril Ramaphosa, who has risen decisively to great heights in dealing with what is a monstrous pandemic that, going forward, must continue to draw the best out of all South Africans.
