Vedanta Zinc International’s Singla joins Minerals Council South Africa board

Zinc producer Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) executive director and CFO Pushpender Singla has been appointed as a member of the Minerals Council South Africa board.

He is a chartered accountant, both in India and South Africa. and has over 15 years’ experience in the mining sector in Australia, India and Africa.

Singla, who was appointed CFO at VZI in October 2016, is a multiskilled business practitioner with a wide range of experience.

The Minerals Council acts as a principal advocate for mining in South Africa to government, communicating major policies endorsed by its members.

“I am pleased and honoured to join the board of the Minerals Council South Africa. I look forward to contributing to the success of the organisation and contributing to further transformation, development and growth of the South African mining industry,” he says.

The Minerals Council’s directive is to facilitate interaction among mining companies to examine policy issues and other matters of mutual concern to aggregate and define desirable industry standpoints.

The council has a variety of initiatives in place to promote collaboration between members; while consultation and collaboration are voluntary and “never encroach” on the autonomy of members, VZI says in a statement.

VZI operates the Black Mountain mine and the Gamsberg project, both in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The company also operates the Skorpion mine and refinery in Namibia.
