UMS Group puts shaft design and sinking, processing design and execution back on the map

Established in 2015, United Mining Services (UMS) Group has positioned itself as a leader in the mining and minerals processing fields.

Through its acquisition of Mining Engineering Technical Services (METS) and Shaft Sinkers, UMS gained more than six decades of combined industry expertise and incorporated the assets, resources and intellectual property of both companies.

Shaft Sinkers and METS are pioneering companies within the mining sector, having collectively undertaken over 250 contracts across the world.

Under the leadership of well-known and respected mining industry specialist Digby Glover as CEO, the company has strategically capitalised on the deep pools of knowledge and experience within the company. Combined with a new and expertly skilled leadership team,
UMS is positioned on a growth path to future success.

Glover is supported by a highly regarded management team, which includes COO Murray Macnab, Shaft Sinkers GM Takalani Randima and METS Mining and METS Process GM Erin Gilfillan.

“Through the extensive skills sets and intellectual property that METS and Shaft Sinkers has brought into UMS we now offer an experienced, one-stop-shop mining services firm that has
the capabilities to build new mines, from concept through to commissioning and operation, under one roof,” Glover outlines.

“Our strengths range from conceptual studies through to rapid underground ore body access, associated mine infrastructure design and implementation as well as the delivery of process facilities. Not many people in the industry recognise that our full suite of services spans the full mining value chain.”

The growing UMS capability is held in high regard globally, as evidenced by the award of new work from around the world, including a new 700m deep vent shaft in the USA. The company has recently also undertaken a shaft compensating tower project for a deep level gold mine in South Africa and a shaft refurbishment project for a manganese operation in the Northern Cape.

“The key technical skills and know-how our team offers has been established over many years and this has provided UMS with a wealth of project experience that will see us provide scalable best practice solutions to our clients, quickly and cost effectively,” Glover concludes.
