TSX-V-listed Tsodilo Resources has been granted a renewal of its prospecting licence, in Botswana, for an area which contains the company’s BK16 kimberlite project.

The licence renewal was granted by the country’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, and is valid for a two-year period from October 1, this year.

The diamondiferous BK16 kimberlite pipe is located within the Orapa Kimberlite Field (OKF) and contains rare and valuable Type IIa diamonds.

The OKF has previously produced notable diamonds, such as the 1 109 ct 'Lesedi La Rona' and the 813 ct 'Constellation' from Lucara Diamond Corporation's Karowe mine.

Tsodilo chairperson and CEO James Bruchs says the licence renewal will allow Tsodilo to move into its Phase 2 evaluation programme. The programme will include a surface bulk sample of 20 000 t of kimberlite, which will enhance the work already undertaken and increase confidence in the value of the diamonds and grade as the miner moves closer to developing this asset.
