Tronox invests R2-million towards building houses in the community

At Tronox, corporate citizenship is an integral part of our global business. One of our core values is to honour our responsibility to create value for stakeholders.

As a global organisation, we are committed to creating sustainability and making a positive difference to the lives of people from the communities where we operate. Through the Local Economic Development (LED) projects, identified in our Social Labour Plan, we invested approximately R2-million in 2020.

Umlalazi Houses

Three houses were built for identified families in need in the Umlalazi area of KwaZulu Natal, with a contract value of about R700 000.

Contractor: Bongamagugu Construction

This project created employment for 12 males, of whom nine were youths.

Dube Housing

A critical housing shortage exists in many parts of the country and a dire need was identified in the Dube area, in KwaZulu Natal. Ten houses were constructed in 2019 as Phase 1 of the project to help address that need.

Contract Value: about R1.3-million

A further ten houses were completed in 2020 as Phase 2 of the Dube housing project in the Madlankala area in KwaZulu Natal.

Contractor: Nomuntu Construction & Projects, a 100% black women-owned company, which employed five females and 15 males – all youths.
