The 2022 Joburg Indaba is back in person and is set to take place on 5th & 6th October at the Inanda Club, Sandton. At this, the 10th Anniversary edition, you can expect a highly engaging and interactive two days packed with constructive conversations on a wide range of critical issues affecting all stakeholders in the mining industry. 

Challenges and opportunities affecting the mining industry in both South Africa and globally will be addressed including how we as an industry are meeting these head on and contemplating a different future.

Chaired by Bernard Swanepoel, the 2022 Joburg Indaba is honoured to announce the following local and international speakers: 

Nolitha Fakude, Chairperson, Management Board, Anglo American in South Africa & President, Minerals Council South Africa, will deliver a keynote address on how to Think Global - Act Local. 

Chris Griffith, Chief Executive Officer, Gold Fields, Neal Froneman, CEO, Sibanye-Stillwater and Nico Muller, CEO, Impala Platinum, will take part in a conversation on why internationalization - is the grass really greener on the other side?

Internationally-renowned resource investor Rick Rule, President and CEO, Rule Investment Media will join Fiona Perrott-Humphrey, Senior Adviser at Rothschild & Co. London, Sandy McGregor, Allan Gray and Henry Sanderson, Executive Editor, Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, in a riveting discussion on the international investment landscape and key issues facing miners over the coming decade. 

Ann Bernstein, Executive Director, The Centre for Development & Enterprise (CDE), and Songezo Zibi, Director, Rivonia Circle, will share their perspectives on a fresh approach to politics and policy for the country and the mining industry. 

Roger Baxter, CEO of the Minerals Council South Africa, will address us on the future of the SA mining industry. 

Peter Steenkamp, CEO, Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited, and Natascha Viljoen, CEO, Anglo American Platinum will discuss the challenges and opportunities of operating in South Africa and why being in South Africa is “lekker”! 

André de Ruyter, Group Chief Executive of Eskom, will engage with us on Eskom’s turnaround strategies, progress and challenges. 

André Joubert, Chief Executive, Ferrous Division, ARM, will reveal why his company is proudly South African, but with a different future! 

Daniel Balepile, President, National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), and Irvin Jim,General Secretary, National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), will take part in a one-on-one conversation on current labour relations in the industry. 

July Ndlovu, CEO, Thungela Resources, will discuss how the world is different post Covid and in light of the Ukraine war and impact on coal as a commodity. 

Mike Teke, Chief Executive Officer, Seriti Resources, will discuss why his company’s commodity is still relevant and what it would mean in a “back to normal” commodity cycle. 

Portia Derby, CEO, Transnet will reveal her plans for the SOE and how they plan to capacitate the mining industry’s growth. 

Richard Stewart, COO, Sibanye-Stillwater, and Piet Viljoen, Chairman, Regarding Capital Management (RECM), will take part in a discussion on capital allocation in a volatile world - short vs long term needs.
