AAM Group Africa's indaba discussion will focus on how the mining industry can do more with spatial information
International geospatial services company AAM Group Africa branch business development manager Roger Blewett will discuss the ways in which geospatial technologies aid decision-making throughout the life cycle of mines at this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba, which takes place at the Cape Town International Conference Centre from February 3 to 6.
“With mining operations dispersed across remote locations, mine owners and decision-makers who are based off-site find it difficult to make informed decisions, owing to a lack of accurate data and information. My presentation will elaborate on the ways in which AAM Africa supports the African mining sector and decision-makers through the deployment of advanced spatial information technologies throughout Africa,” he tells Mining Weekly.
Blewett adds that attendees will gain insight into the ‘softer’ side of mine planning, environmental compliance and visualisation through his visual presentation of advanced data capture technology.
“Essentially, my speech will discuss how the mining industry can do more with spatial information and how geospatial and visualisation technologies are reducing overheads, optimising workflow, saving time and communicating change,” he explains.
AAM Group will also be an exhibitor at the 2014 Mining Indaba. The company has been exhibiting since 2008 under AAM Group subsidiary geospatial company AOC Geomatics.
Blewett says the event provides a platform for AAM Group Africa to showcase its capabilities and technologies, which support the entire life cycle of mines. The indaba also shows the world the benefits of investing in Africa and its resources, he adds.
“I am looking forward to engaging with mining representatives to understand their unique challenges and how, together with AAM, we can overcome these hurdles with innovative thinking and solutions.”
Blewett hopes that delegates are given the opportunity to learn from one another’s successes and challenges experienced in the African mining industry.
