SEW-EURODRIVE (Pty) Ltd is preferred supplier to chrome mines in Steelpoort area

The Nelspruit branch of SEW-EURODRIVE (Pty) Ltd is not only the industrial gear hub for Southern Africa, it supplies drive solutions for the rest of the continent. It also supplies electric motors, geared motors, planetary, and industrial gear units for the chrome-mining industry in the region, in addition to field service.

The main differentiator for SEW-EURODRIVE (Pty) Ltd in this highly-competitive market segment is the combination of its product reliability and aftersales, technical, and field-service assistance, Nelspruit Branch Manager Jonathan McKey points out. “We pride ourselves on our 24/7 technical and field service back-up,” he adds.

Such has been the success of SEW-EURODRIVE (Pty) Ltd in the region that it is now the preferred supplier to about 85% of mines in the Steelpoort area alone. Its footprint has expanded steadily since it began supplying a handful of gear units, Sales representative Nico Schutte comments. The main applications for the SEW-EURODRIVE (Pty) Ltd products in the chrome-mining industry are conveyor, agitator, separator, and ball mill drive units, among many others.

SEW-EURODRIVE (Pty) Ltd has made particular inroads into the mining industry due to the fact that it supplies affordable, modular, and highly-reliable complete drive solutions.

The M-Series, MC-Series and X-series are ideal to meet the highest demands for quality, reliability, and performance. The product ranges have been optimised for a range of drive characteristics, allowing for simple machine design by adding options and mounting parts easily.

SEW-EURODRIVE (Pty) Ltd unveiled ‘The Future of Mining’ at Electra Mining Africa 2018 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg from 10 to 14 September, where it displayed its latest Mechatronic Industrial Gear (MIG) unit. This represents the revolutionary convergence of gears, motors, and decentralised inverters in a single handy package.

It represents an exciting future technology for the mining industry, especially with the increasing trend towards automation to cut costs and boost productivity. The MIG unit is an innovative solution that ensures practical benefits and profitability across all stages, from the initial inquiry right through to maintenance.

A long service life is guaranteed due to highly efficient lubrication and sealing, which also cuts down on maintenance requirements. Easy mounting and installation are facilitated by advanced features such as EBD (Extended Bearing Distance) and an axial thrust bearing arrangement on the output shaft.
