PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Senex Energy has completed its A$400-million Surat basin natural gas development project.

The project consisted of an 80 well drilling campaign, down from the originally planned 110 wells, and in conjunction with its infrastructure partner Jemena, built and commissioned natural gas facilities at Roma North and Atlas to deliver greenfield gas processing infrastructure capacity of more than 20 PJ a year.

“In October 2018, Senex reached its final investment decision for this A$400-million capital programme. Less than two years later, Roma North and Atlas have been successfully delivered, an industry leading achievement and a credit to all involved,” said Senex MD and CEO Ian Davies.

“With a proved and probable natural gas reserve in excess of 600 PJ across our Surat basin acreage, Senex will be delivering natural gas to the domestic market for decades to come,” he added.

Roma North is currently producing above nameplate capacity at some 18 TJ/d, while production from Atlas has exceeded 15 TJ/d and continues to increase steadily to its nameplate capacity of 32 TJ/d, with an additional 8 TJ/d of installed capacity available.

Project construction at Atlas is expected early in 2021.
