SA’s Lindy Scott emerges AfriSAFE 2021 Shining Star

A South African safety practitioner, Lindy Scott has emerged the Shining Star of the Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) 2021.

Scott emerged winner out of 15 finalists nominated in the Torch Bearers category of the prestigious award. The announcement was made at the AfriSAFE Gala Night held at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria on Friday, November 12.

The Chief Executive Officer of AfriSAFE, Mr. Femi Da-silva stated that the Torch Bearers category “recognizes individuals (under 40) who are dedicated to continuous improvement in safety or have raised awareness through various health and safety initiatives thereby impacting their world of contact.”

He added that the Shining Star of the award is usually got from the Torch Bearers category in recognition of the nominees’ dedication to their profession, whether in formal or informal setting.

According to him, 165 professionals were nominated in the category out of which 15 were selected as finalists by the Award’s panel of judges. He added that the finalists comprised eight Nigerians, two Cameroonians, two Kenyans, and one individual each from Zambia, Tanzania, and Ghana. “Ms. Scott’s emergence as the winner of this highly-contested category is a testament to her peerless professionalism and work etiquette,” Da-silva said.

Other South Africans that won an award on the night were Hope Mugagga Kiwekete (Lifetime Achievement category), Cornelius Nortje of SAIOSH (Honorary category), Impala Rustenburg (Mining Company of the Year category), and SafetyCloud (NOSA) (Training Provider of the Year category).
