Sarens South Africa

Specialist in heavy lifting, projects and mobile crane hire, Sarens South Africa is a subsidiary of the global Sarens Group.

With headquarters in Wolvertem, Belgium, and offices worldwide, Sarens has been active in crane rental and heavy lifting and special projects since 1955. It operates in 33 countries, with more than 2 700 employees, 1 400 cranes ranging in capacity from 50 t to 3 000 t, a fleet of 1 200 axle lines of self-propelled modular trailer equipment and various alternative lifting and skidding equipment systems.

Backed by more than 100 years experience in the industry, state-of-the-art equipment and a team of professionals, the local company specialises in finding solutions to lift technically difficult loads, safely and cost
effectively.

In terms of cranage and rigging, Sarens South Africa supplies lifting equipment for projects ranging from 1 t to 2 000 t. The company owns a fleet of modern cranes that are serviced regularly and maintained beyond
statutory requirements. Currently, an 800 t
maximum crane lifting capacity is available in South Africa, but with access to worldwide equipment, stored at strategic locations, it is possible to mobilise up to 2 000-t lifting equipment within a month.

With regard to project logistics, Sarens NV manages and coordinates the entire ambit of logistics necessary for large industrial and infrastructure projects. This entails the loading, transportation, shipping, clearing, forwarding and installation of components to and from any destination in the world.

On the project front, the local office supplies lifting equipment for projects ranging from 1 t to 2 000 t.

Sarens South Africa has been a market leader in heavy lifting in Southern Africa for more than six years. An engineering department plans and oversees all projects.

A range of hydraulic cranes is available, with capacities ranging from 20 t to 120 t.

The Sarens Group has introduced the SGC 120 crane, which will be available in early 2011. This innovative and versatile heavy-lift crane system is the product of the combined engineering efforts of Sarens and its newest group member, Rigging International of California, in the US.

Earlier this year, the Terex-Demag CC6800 crawler crane arrived in South Africa. This is the biggest mobile crawler crane in the region, weighing in at a true 1 250-t on-lift capacity.
The crane’s design is modular by nature,
facilitating transportability and reducing
establishment costs, as well as allowing maximum configuration flexibility.

The Sarens AC650, which is said to be the biggest hydraulic crane currently in Southern Africa with a 720-t capacity, has been
deployed at the Sishen mine, in Northern Cape, for a project involving the waste at the Sishen expansion project.
