Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology Southern Africa believes in developing the communities in which they operate. Their involvement within these communities is geared towards issues of importance that each community faces. With a focus on health and education, their support positively impacts care centres, education and training, environmental and social upliftment projects.

Sandvik partnered with Mother’s Day Connect this year to make a difference to new moms at the Edenvale Hospital. Mother’s Day Connect is a national celebration of new motherhood started by Embrace, South Africa’s movement for mothers. The campaign brings women across the country together on Mother’s Day to acknowledge and celebrate the bond of motherhood.

For some mothers, Mother’s Day is a celebration but for many the day goes unnoticed. The campaign believes every mom is worthy of care and support and woman around the country take one hour of their time on Mother’s Day to visit new mothers in hospitals to encourage and support them. This simple yet positive exercise aims at building connections and acknowledgement for new moms.

“In partnering with Mother’s Day Connect, some of our female employees and employee spouses took one hour out of their Mother’s Day to visit new moms in the Edenvale Hospital,” says Alice Ward, Sales Area Marketing Manager for Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology Southern Africa. “We also donated care packs for the new moms and babies. Items included toiletries for moms and babies, clothing for the babies, swaddle blankets and spoils for the new moms.”

“It was a delight surprising new moms with the care packs and acknowledging the new role they will play in the lives of their children. Another way that we add heart to our actions.”
