Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visit to Russia has reportedly unlocked funds for platinum mining at Darwendale, on Zimbabwe’s Great Dyke, and marked the return to the country of Russia’s State diamond company, Alrosa. Bloomberg reports that the Kremlin is “ready to do everything that depends on us” to ensure “a significant contribution” to Zimbabwe’s government programmes, and Mines Minister Winston Chitando has told Zimbabwe’s Sunday Mail that $300-million is available for immediate drawdown following President Mnangagwa’s meeting with President Vladimir Putin, whose ties with Africa are expected to reach a high point later this year at a planned Russia-Africa summit.
