Recycled rubber range aids sustainability initiatives

WELCOME TO SA Polyflor’s recycled range of rubber flooring was introduced into the South African market in 2007

Vinyl flooring and wall protection specialist Polyflor launched the R-Range recycled-rubber wall protector last year to protect buildings against damage caused by wheeled traffic.

The first product in the range – the WPSXT195E – is manufactured using rubber from recycled tyres, contributing towards sustainability initiatives.

“We aimed to focus on sustainability by introducing a recycling initiative that would enable all our waste to be introduced back into new buildings in a unique method,” says Polyflor COO Clive Rabie.

The WPSXT195E is locally manufactured, and assists in reducing costs required to repair, repaint and replace surfaces as it absorbs and deflects impact.

He adds that, while the product has not yet been supplied to a project, the WPSXT195E is available in units of 195 mm by 32 mm by 2 900 mm.

He adds that Polyflor SA also supplies a range of rubber flooring which is suitable for use in areas of high public circulation such as multi-function halls and classrooms, shopping malls, train stations and airports.

“The longevity of both product types – vinyl and rubber – if installed and maintained correctly, can span well over 30 years. Both are enduring and hard-wearing flooring options with the beauty of being recyclable,” says Rabie.

Rabie notes that Polyflor’s rubber flooring ranges were initially introduced into the flooring market because of international project requirements and trends. The company’s recycled range of rubber flooring was introduced into the South African market in 2007.
