Global resource consulting group SRK Consulting opened a new practice in Hong Kong this month, which is the company’s seventh practice in Asia and fiftieth worldwide.

The company, which is part of the global SRK Group, believes the new office strat-egically positions it to take advantage of the rapidly growing demand for resource consulting services in the region.

“Hong Kong was chosen to service both the Chinese and the international finance sectors, Hong Kong-listed companies and State-owned enterprises.

“The new offices will also complement our existing offices in China, Indonesia, Mongolia and Australia,” says SRK Group vice chairperson and director of SRK Hong Kong Brian Middleton.

He notes that the Hong Kong office will be led by Dr Gavin Chan, a senior consultant geologist relocated to the country from Australia.

“His expertise lies in geological due dilig- ence, project analysis and exploration target-ing,” says Middleton.

He adds that the new office will be supple- mented with personnel hired locally, supported by specialists from its sister offices.

“The establishment of the new office will enable SRK Consulting to better serve our potential and existing clients, and strengthen our relationship with the regulators.

“With Hong Kong being a key global min- ing financial hub and its location on the door- step of the world’s most significant resource investment country, China, having a presence here has become increasingly important for resource consultancies,” concludes Chan.
