PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Graphite developer Renascor Resources on Thursday said that it would investigate a substantial increase to the Stage 1 production capacity at its Siviour battery anode material manufacturing operation, in South Australia.
The company told shareholders that the decision to investigate an increase in the Stage 1 production, beyond the currently planned 28 000 t/y of purified spherical graphite, resulted from increased inquiries from major anode manufacturers.
The company is also determined to bring forward feasibility work for the Stage 2 expansion of the planned battery anode material operation.
“We are extremely pleased with the quality of inbound inquiries we are receiving from leasing anode and battery companies, which represents latent demand for volumes that represent a multiple of our currently planned Stage 1 production capacity,” said Renascor MD David Christensen.
“We are currently assessing the optimal scale of Stage 1 production capacity and bringing forward feasibility work for the Stage 2 expansion. Our objective is to leverage our world-class, world-scale Siviour graphite deposit to maximise value to our shareholders.”
Christensen said that in parallel, the company is also working with existing offtake partners to progress product validation test work and to conclude formal binding agreements.
The company previously concluded three ten-year offtake memoranda of understanding (MoUs) which could cover all of the Stage 1 production from the planned battery anode material operation.
Each of the MoUs with Shanxi Minguang New Material Technology, Jiangxi Zhengtuo New Energy Technology and Hanwa accounted for up to 10 000 t/y of purified spherical graphite.
