The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada has invited public comments on the draft environmental assessment reports for three exploration drilling projects, east of St John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The three projects, located between 350 km and 375 km offshore, are the BHP Canada, Central Ridge and West Flemish Pass projects.

BHP Canada is proposing to conduct an exploration drilling project in the Orphan basin, investigating the potential hydrocarbon resource in exploration licences 1157 and 1158. The timeline for the project is between 2021 and 2028.

The Central Ridge project of Equinor Canada will focus on exploration licences 1159 and 1160. The timeline for the project is between 2021 and 2030.

Chevron Canada is drilling the West Flemish Pass project in exploration licence 1138, between 2021 and 2025.

The agency concluded that none of the three projects were likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects, taking into account the implementation of mitigation measures.
