The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) has imposed provisional antidumping duties on vehicle windscreens imported from China, varying from 18.36% to 26.6%.

Itac has initiated an investigation into the alleged dumping of windscreens from China for use in the Southern African Customs Union (Sacu) as replacement glass in the aftermarket.

On the basis of available information, Itac says it has made a preliminary determination that the windscreens are being dumped on to the Sacu market, causing material injury and/or a material threat to the local industry.

The duties will be in effect for six months, in order to prevent further “material injury” to the Sacu industry during the investigation, says Itac in a statement.
