Pensana appoints Kaplan as FD

London-listed Pensana has appointed Robert Kaplan FD, with effect from March 31.

"We are delighted to announce Rob’s well-deserved appointment as FD. He brings a wealth of experience from leading London-listed companies in the natural resources space and will be pivotal in Pensana’s next phase of growth.

"It is an incredibly exciting time for the company, as we enter the final stages of funding for our Saltend and Longonjo development projects, bringing us ever closer to creating the world’s first independent, sustainable rare earth supply chain based in the UK,” says Pensana chairperson Paul Atherley.

Kaplan is a chartered accountant with over 20 years’ experience in corporate finance with LSE main market and Aim-listed companies.

He was appointed CFO of Pensana on January 1, 2020.

He will continue to lead Pensana’s finance team, supported by highly experienced natural resources financier and nonexecutive director Steve Sharpe.

Pensana is developing the UK's first rare earths processing facility at Saltend, which will produce about 12 500 t/y of rare earth oxides, of which about 4 500 t/y will be neodymium and praseodymium.

Initial feedstock for the facility will be shipped as a clean, high-purity mixed rare earths sulphate (MRES) from Pensana's Longonjo mine, in Angola.

The company is also conducting exploration at the Coola project, which is located 16 km north of Longonjo, to assess how that resource may complement production from Longonjo.
