Pan African COO seriously injured in botched robbery

Midtier gold miner Pan African Resources said on Monday that COO Bert van den Bergh was injured in an attempted robbery at his Johannesburg home on Sunday night.

Van den Bergh was “seriously injured in what appears to be a failed robbery attempt”, the company said in a statement to the market.

Pan African wished Van den Bergh a speedy and full recovery and said it would keep the market appraised of further developments.

The group, which is listed in London and Johannesburg, said it had the necessary plans in place at all its operations to ensure business continuity. Pan African operates mines in South Africa with a capacity of 200 000 oz/y of gold.
