Operations resume in Rosebel southern pits – Iamgold

Canadian miner Iamgold announced on Monday that mining operations had resumed in the southern pits of its Rosebel gold mine, in Suriname, with full ramp up expected in about 30 days.

The company suspended operations at Rosebel in early August, after an illegal miner gained access to the site and died following an incident with police. Operations resumed in the northern pits of the mine about a week after the suspension.

Iamgold reported that mine development activities at Saramacca site had now also resumed. A recall plan was in place for the 325 contractors who were released on August 15.

Saramacca ore would be hauled to the Rosebel mill in early November.

The miner did not give a production guidance update, but previously lowered its forecast for the year to between 765 000 oz and 810 000 oz, from a range of 810 000 oz to 870 000 oz, to reflect the Rosebel suspension.
