Base metals miner Lundin Mining has temporarily suspended operations at the Neves-Corvo mine, in Portugal, following a fatality late in the evening on Friday.
In what the company has described as an isolated incident underground, an employee of a materials handling contractor was fatally injured while operating a piece of mobile equipment.
"It is with deep sadness that we report the tragic loss of a contractor colleague. Our thoughts are with the family, friends and our Neves-Corvo team at this difficult time. The safety of our employees and contractors remains our top priority," said president and CEO Peter Rockandel.
Relevant regulatory authorities have been notified.
