New-generation oscilloscope in South Africa

NEW DEVELOPMENTS The 190 Series II has a two- or four-channel scope for harsh conditions or industrial electronics especially designed for plant maintenance engineers

Electronic test tools, biomedical equipment and networking solutions manufacturer Fluke is offering the first high- performance portable oscilloscopes with two or four independently insulated input channels, an IP51 dust and drip waterproof rating, and a Category III 1000 V and/or Category IV 600 V safety rating.

The Fluke brand is represented in South Africa by Linbro Park-based industrial equipment supplier Comtest, which provides test and measurement, communications, process control, equipment, solutions and specialised systems.

Comtest notes that users can choose from 500 MHz, 200 MHz, 100 MHz or 60 MHz bandwidth models, a two- or four-channel scope for harsh conditions or industrial electronics especially designed for plant maintenance engineers. A 5 000 count digital multimeter is included in the two-channel models.

Comtest explains that the 190 Series II has up to four independent floating isolated inputs, up to 1 000 V and a real-time sampling of up to five gigasamples a second, depending on the model and channels used.

The company adds that the new generation oscilloscope features frequency spectrum, using fast fourier transform-analysis, automatic capture, and replay of 100 screens, as well as a deep memory of 10 000 points per trace waveform capture (scope mode).

The company points out that the 190 Series II software includes Connect-and-View triggering for intelligent, automatic triggering on fast, slow and even complex signals. It also has a ScopeRecord roll mode, which gives 30 000 points per input channel for low-frequency signal analysis. Additionally, the 190 Series II also has a TrendPlot paperless recorder mode with deep memory for long-term automatic measurements.

“THE 190 Series II has an impressive seven hours of battery operation using BP291, as well as an easy access battery door for quick battery swaps in the field,” Comtest adds, noting that the isolated USB host port allows for direct data storage to a USB memory device. The 2.2 kg 190 Series II is compact and features a security slot, locking the oscilloscope down with a Kensington lock which secures portable devices while unattended.
