Measuring instruments supplier Wika Instruments has launched its new Emission Control Gauge, referred to as the Emico gauge pressure measuring assembly, to ensure safety for people and the environment in critical processes, says Wika product specialist Sagadevan Kanniappen.

He tells Engineering News that the assembly, comprising primarily of the 2xx.30 pressure gauge in a safety version in accordance with EN 837-1 (S3) and a valve to prevent fugitive emissions, is fully leak-tested, in accordance with the requirements of TA Luft (VDI 2440) for fugitive emissions. The TA Luft are the German technical instructions that regulate the control of fugitive emissions, to protect the environment from air pollutants.

He adds that the Emico gauge ensures reliable pressure measurement from 0 to 420 bar, or 6 000 psi. In the event of a process abnormality resulting in high overpressure – which is common in the process industry, the S-3 safety version, by design, protects the user from injury, should the pressure gauge fail.

“The compact measuring assembly can be installed easily and immediately after delivery. It minimises the number of leak points and reduces the risk of fugitive emissions leaking into the environment.”

The assembly’s use case in respect of fugitive emissions, for example, has increased with the use of natural gas as a transitional energy source between carbon-based fuel and renewable energy.

Kanniappen adds that the assembly can be used in many process applications, such as those found in  power generation, oil and gas, petrochemicals and chemicals, water, as well as pulp and paper industries.

He adds that the Emico range falls under Wika Instruments and is a part of Wika’s comprehensive process instrumentation portfolio.

Moreover, the company focuses on continuous skills development for staff to be informed of the legislative requirements for process instrumentation used in the highly regulated process industry, facilitating the creation of innovative solutions.

“We pride ourselves in continuous innovation that results in the growth of trusted measurement technology. We are constantly expanding our measurement solution portfolio in line with the requirements from industry,” he concludes.
