New CEO for Buffalo Coal, Oosthuizen becomes CFO

South African coal company Buffalo Coal announced on Wednesday that Emma Oosthuizen had resigned as CEO of the company by triggering the termination clause of her employment contract.

This follows the change of control of ownership of Buffalo Coal, with Belvedere Resources now the majority shareholder.

Oosthuizen, who was also acting as the interim CFO, has assumed the role of the CFO with immediate effect.

Buffalo also announced the appointment of Somdeb Banerjee as the CEO with effect of November 29.

Banerjee is the CEO of the group, including the operating and revenue generating subsidiaries, Buffalo Coal Dundee and Zinoju Coal, and for the entirety of the group's coal mining and processing businesses.

Banerjee completed his engineering qualification from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and pursued an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (now Kolkata). He has had a significant stint leading certain African operations of steel conglomerate Tata Steel as MD and CEO.

Buffalo also advised that Kevern Mattison had departed as the GM of its South African operations during the third quarter of 2022.
