The Academy of Science of South Africa expresses condolences on the passing of former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela on Thursday 5 December 2013.
Mr Mandela will be remembered as the iconic leader of the struggle against apartheid and a father to the South African nation. His memory will continue to be an example of strong leadership and patriotism.
The Academy of Science of South Africa holds him in particularly high regard as the Patron of the launch of the Academy in May 1996.
