Canadian mining company Sierra Metals has reported the death of three contractor employees at its Yauricocha mine, in Peru, citing a mudslide incident at the underground mine.

One person was also injured in the incident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Mining operations have been suspended as a result of the incident and will resume once conditions are considered safe and appropriate, the TSX-listed company reports.

Local authorities are investigating the incident.

“The thoughts of the board of directors and management are with the family, friends and colleagues that have been impacted by this unfortunate incident,” the company says.
