Two South African mining CEOs have ranked in the country's top-six leading managers in a recently published Corporate Research Foundation (CRF) report, with gold major Gold Fields CEO Ian Cockerill topping the list.

Platinum junior Wesizwe CEO Mike Solomon was ranked 6th leading manager in the report.

CRF South Africa's research involved in compiling its yearly leading managers report covers financial performance, management style, markets and culture.

It covers 26 sectors, and the key management indicators used included growth of the company, management strategy, the competitive environment, innovation and flexibility, and corporate social responsibility.

Gold Fields is the fourth-biggest global gold producer, while Wesizwe is a black-owned platinum junior building an underground mine near Rustenburg.
