Miner dies at Sino Iron

PERTH (miningweekly.com) – A maintenance worker has died at Citic Pacific Mining’s Sino Iron operation, in Western Australia, resulting from injuries sustained from a fall at the mine site on Friday.

Citic Pacific said in a statement that the incident occurred at the coarse ore stockpile shed within the concentrator precinct at about 11:00. The man was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to Karratha Health Campus in a critical condition.

“We’re currently directing our efforts to helping those affected at site, including provision of counselling, and managing the incident under the guidance of relevant authorities,” Citic Pacific said in a statement.

The incident will be fully investigated by Police and the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety. 

“We extend our deep condolences to the man’s family and workmates and will work closely with investigators to determine the cause of this tragedy,” the company said.
